Advisor Ministry of Investment, Saudi Arabia
Darren is an experienced senior executive with a track record in the extractive industries across a career including senior roles in industry and investment banking. He has been based in the Middle East since 1999 and has been active across the region from the Gulf to North Africa.
Since April 2021 he has been currently an Advisor to the Ministry of Investment in Saudi Arabia to support the country’s ambitious goals for increasing both domestic and foreign investment in the Kingdom.
Before joining the Ministry, Darren was President & CEO of Saudi Arabian Mining Company (Ma’aden) from 2018-2020 having previously held a number of finance roles at the company, including CFO, 2012 to 2018. Ma’aden is a publicly listed company based in Saudi Arabia with operations in-country and in East Africa. With 10,000+ employees, the company mines gold, copper, bauxite and phosphate as well as producing aluminium and phosphate products. The company has a market capitalisation of ~$20B. During his time with Ma’aden, Darren’s key areas of focus included strategy development, capital planning, and leading negotiations with JV partners and acquisition targets.
Prior to this, he enjoyed a successful 20 year banking career in the natural resources and energy sectors with a record of successful debt and equity raising as well as executing complex capital restructurings.
